Men Finish Sixth at LSC

THACKERVILLE, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University fashioned its finest round on the last day and earned itself a sixth-place finish in the Lone Star Conference Men’s Golf Championship. The 54-hole, two-day tournament was completed Tuesday at the Winstar Golf Course in Thackerville, Okla.

SWOSU shot rounds of 292, 293 and 287 to end up with an eight-over par score of 872. The sixth-place finish was the Bulldogs best since a fourth-place effort in 2005 and puts them in line for a probable berth in the South/South Central Regional Golf Tournament set for next week in Austin.

Cameron won its seventh conference title with a nine-under score of 855, eight strokes ahead of Northeastern State and Abilene Christian. NSU and ACU tied for second with a score of 863. Central Oklahoma was fourth with an 865, Midwestern State was fifth with an 870, Texas A&M-Commerce was seventh with an 876, Southeastern Oklahoma was eighth with an 884, East Central was ninth with an 892 and West Texas A&M was 10th at 902.

Scott Kulczycki had the best finish of any SWOSU golfer turning in rounds of 75, 71 and 69 to finish one-under 215. Kulczycki placed seventh out of a field of 50 golfers.

Texas A&M-Commerce’s Pinky Hartline was the winner for the medalist honors with a seven-under score of 209. He bettered Cameron’s Peter Svajilen and Northeastern’s Jeff Cox by one stroke.

Other SWOSU golfers and their finish are as follows: Luke Phillips in 14th with at one-over, 217; Pat McCarthey in 17th with a two-over, 218; Ben Claussen in 27th with a six-over, 222; and Tyler Porter was 48th with a 16-over, 232.
