Golf Team Readies for Regional

AUSTIN, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University will compete against 16 other men’s golf teams from across the South and South Central regions of the country for a berth in the NCAA Division II National Golf Championships.

The Bulldogs, under fourth-year coach Michael Bond, were one of eight teams from the South Central Region that earned a berth in the NCAA qualifying tournament. SWOSU, along with the other seven teams from the South Central region, will join another eight teams from the South Region in a three-day tournament set to take place May 5-7 at Circle C Golf Ranch in Austin, Texas.

SWOSU’s last appearance in a Super Regional tournament was 2004.
The top five finishing teams will then advance to the NCAA National Championships set for later this month in Houston, Texas.

The Bulldogs are ranked 26th in the nation and have a pair of second-place finishes to go along with a tournament championship won at the Newman Classic earlier this year.

SWOSU’s lineup will be as it has been most of the season with all-conference senior Pat McCarthy leading the way. McCarthy has had seven top 10 finishes and his stroke average of 73.2 is one of the best in the Lone Star Conference. He will be joined by juniors Scott Kulczycki and Luke Phillips who together have seven combined top 10 finishes and have had a strong spring campaign. Other members on the team are Ben Claussen and Tyler Porter.

Teams scheduled to compete with SWOSU are Central Oklahoma, St. Edward’s, Abilene Christian, Cameron, Northeastern State, Southeastern Oklahoma, St. Mary’s, West Florida, Florida Southern, Nova Southeastern, Valdosta State, Barry, Lynn, Florida Tech and North Alabama.
