Men Sit in Third Place

KINGSTON, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University finds itself in position for its highest finish of the men’s fall golf season if it can hold its current third-place position at the Texhoma Championships. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is hosted by Southeastern Oklahoma State University and being played at the Chickasaw Pointe Golf and Country Club in Kingston, Okla.
SWOSU backed up an opening 301 with a 297 and sit comfortably in third place at 598. The Bulldogs are 15 strokes behind second-place Central Oklahoma’s score of 583 and 20 strokes off the pace set by leader Sam Houston State.
SWOSU will most likely face a stern challenge on the last day from fourth-place Midwestern State who is just three behind at 601 and Texas A&M-Commerce four strokes back at 602.
SWOSU’s Ben Claussen, Luke Phillips and Tyler Porter are tied with a group of others for 15th place. The trio each finished at six-over par, 150, and are 10 strokes back from co-leaders Scott Kelly and Fergal Rafferty of Sam Houston State.
