Men Place 9th at Event

POTTSBORO, Texas - Southwestern Oklahoma State University made up eight strokes against its nearest competition to move into a ninth place tie in the final round of the Texas A&M-Commerce Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament was completed Tuesday at the Tanglewood Golf and Country Club in Pottsboro, Texas.
SWOSU turned in a final day of 314 and joined Rockhurst University in ninth-place tie at 947. Central Oklahoma was the runaway winner in the event shooting an 878, 33 shots better than second place Arkansas Tech. St. Mary's was third with 315 and the host, Texas A&M-Commerce, was fourth at 920. A total of 16 teams and 83 golfers competed in the event.
Luke Phillips was SWOSU's top golfer in the tournament finishing in a tie for 18th with a 231. Phillips turned in rounds of 78, 78 and 75. UCO's Colby Shrum was the medalist with a six-under par score of 210. Shrum was eight shots better than his teammate Austin Bowman who finished second at 218.
Other SWOSU golfers and their finish are as follows: Dakota Brown finished in 35th with a 22-over par score of 238; Scott Kulczycki was 45th with a 24-over par, 240; Kyle Collier was 56th with a 29-over par score of 245 and Ben Claussen was 60th with a 32-over par score of 248.
SWOSU will next play beginning March 9th at the East Central University Invitational. The two-day tournament will be at the WinStar Golf Course in Thackerville, Okla.
