Men Place Eighth in LSC

THACKERVILLE, Okla. - The Southwestern Oklahoma State University men's golf team finished in eighth place at the 2009 Lone Star Conference Championships which completed Tuesday at the WinStar Golf Course in Thackerville, Okla. The Bulldogs shot a final round 288 after posting back-to-back 291's on the opening day to finish at 870. SWOSU finished six strokes better than East Central and eight better than last-place West Texas A&M in 10th.

Northeastern State won its fourth title in five years with a 7-under par final round 281 to claim the team crown. At 39-under (825), the RiverHawks despite a late charge from Central Oklahoma and Midwestern State .  The Mustangs and Bronchos pulled within five and six strokes, respectively, after the 12th hole before NSU regrouped and pulled away down the stretch.

UCO finished second with a 29-under 835 in the team standings, while Midwestern State was third at 24-under (840).

UCO's Colby Shrum, the two-time LSC Player of the Year, topped NSU's Jeff Cox (203) and Texas A&M-Commerce's Blake Worden (206) for individual medalist honors with a 7-under par 65 on the day and a 15-under par 201 total.

SWOSU's top golfer was Dakota Brown who finished in a tie for 20th with one-under par 215. Brown shot 72-72-71 during the 54-hole tournament. Other SWOSU scores are as follows: Ben Claussen was 24th with a 70-72-75-217; Scott Kulczycki was 27th with a 74-73-71-218, Luke Phillips was 33rd with a 75-74-71-220; and Tyler Porter was 45th with a 77-74-77-228.
