Rainey leads team at TAMC

Southwestern Oklahoma State University continued its rapid rise in women’s golf keyed by the outstanding play of star golfer Jaryn Rainey. Rainey led her Bulldog teammates to a fourth-place finish at the Texas A&M-Commerce/Lady Lion Classic.
The two-day, 36-hole tournament featured nine teams and was completed Tuesday at the Webb Hill Country Club in Wolfe City, Texas.
Rainey, who has finished fifth or better in both of SWOSU’s tournaments, placed fifth in the 48-golfer field. She turned in back-to-back rounds of 78 to finish at 156, +12 over par.
Tarleton State was the runaway winner with four of their golfers nailing down positions one through four. The Texans finished with a team score of 608, a whopping 47 strokes ahead of second-place Texas A&M-Commerce. The TexAnns led by 25 shots after the first round and grew it even more in the second round of play.
TSU’s Carla Cooper won medalist honors with a three-over score of 147. Teammate Andrea Lowe was second, six shots back at 153.
Other SWOSU golfers and their finish are as follows: Tasha Marshall was 17th with a score of 167, +23 over par; Whitney McCuistion finished in 24th with a 173, Kelly Lockhart was 27th with a score of 175, +31; and Lauren Degan was 36th with a score of 182, +38.
The SWOSU women will play next Monday, Oct. 8 at the University of Central Oklahoma Challenge at Edmond’s Kickingbird Golf Course.
