Women Finish 6th at UCO

EDMOND, Okla. – The Southwestern Oklahoma State University women’s golf team finished its third fall tournament in sixth place at the Central Oklahoma Fall Classic. The two-day, 36-hole tournament was completed Tuesday at Edmond’s Kickingbird Golf Course.
The Bulldogs followed a first-day 317 with a 334 and ended up with a 651 total. SWOSU was fifth after the first day and were passed by Northeastern State on the leaderboard the second day.
SWOSU’s Jaryn Rainey was the top finisher for SWOSU in 11th place with a 154, +14 over par. Rainey was in second alone after her first round score of 71 left her four shots off the pace set by Tarleton State’s Carla Cooper. Rainey then shot an 83 in the second round and found herself out of the top 10 for the first time this year.
Cooper wrapped up a wire-to-wire win in the individual race and led her Tarleton State squad to the team title. She followed her opening-round 67 with a closing
72 to finish with a one-under score of 139. Alex Smith of st. Edward’s was second, three shots back at 142, +2.
The TexAnns fired a final-round 293 to finish with 591 total and clipped St. Edward’s by eight strokes. Northeastern State was third in the 13-team tournament at 625, followed by West Texas A&M (635) and host Central Oklahoma (636). SWOSU finished sixth at 651.
Other SWOSU golfers and their finish are as follows: Whitney McCuistion in 17th with a 157, Tasha Marshall and Lauren Degan shared 39th place with a 170 and Kelly Lockhart was 60th with a 180.
The Bulldogs will close the fall season next week at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Cameron University at the Lawton Golf and Country Club.
