Women Finish 13th at Tarleton

WOMEN PLACE 13th AT TARLETON

GRANBURRY, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University opened the 2008 spring golf season with a 13th place finish at the Tarleton State Classic. The women’s tournament was shortened to just to 18 holes after rains washed out Saturday’s opening round.

Whitney McCuistion was the top SWOSU finisher as she ended in a tie for 16th overall with a nine-over par, 81.

The tournament, which was played at the Harbor Lakes Golf Course in Granbury, Texas, featured 16 teams and 83 golfers.

Tarleton State, the nation’s third-ranked NCAA Division II team, won the event as hosts with a 310. The TexAnns had four of their five golfers finish seventh or better.

Barry University and Northeastern State shared second place with a 317, 10 shots off the lead. Other Lone Star Conference schools that competed in the event were fifth-place West Texas A&M at 340, eighth-place Central Oklahoma at 355, 11th place Texas A&M-Commerce at 360, 12th place East Central at 363 and Cameron in 15th place with a 368.

Alex Smith of St. Edwards on the medalist honors with a three-over 75, one shot better than Tarleton’s Shaddhanjali Singh and Maury Shock 76 score.

Also playing for SWOSU were Tasha Marshall who finished in 59th place with a 21-over-par score of 93, Jaryn Rainey was 64th with a 94, Kelly Lockhart was 71st with a 97 and Lauren Degan was 78th with a 101.

The next tournament for SWOSU will be Feb. 25-26 at the St. Mary’s Rattler Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
