McCuistion Takes Third at ECU

THACKERVILLE, Okla. -- Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Whitney McCuistion helped lead the women’s golf team to a fifth place finish at the East Central University Invitational.

 McCuistion, an Altus junior, placed third in a tournament field that featured eight teams and 41 golfers. The two-day, 36-hole tournament was played at the Winstar Golf and Country Club in Thackerville, Okla. 

McCuistion shot rounds of 79 and 78 to finish at 13-over-par 157. She was just six shots behind medalist Aymara Villaroel (151) of Lon Morris Junior College and five back from second-place Kelly Rainbolt (152) of Lubbock Christian.

SWOSU shot rounds of 346 and 335 to finish at 681. The Bulldogs finished ahead of Lone Star Conference schools Texas A&M-Commerce, Cameron and East Central.

Lubbock Christian, behind three top six individual finishes (including a second and a third), captured the team championship with a score of 638 (323-315). The Chaps won by 13 strokes over second place West Texas A&M and Lon Morris Community College. Both finished with a 651.

Other SWOSU golfers and their finish are as follows Jaryn Rainey was 12th with a 19-over-par, 163; Tasha Marshall was 26th with a 34-over score of 178; Kelly Lockhart was 37th with a 42-over, 186 and Lauren Degan was 40th with a 47-over, 191.

The women will next play at the Texas A&M-Commerce Invitational held at Tanglewood Golf and Country Club in Pottsboro, Texas.
