Rainey Earns Top 10 Finish

THACKERVILLE, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Jaryn Rainey earned a top 10 finish in the most important golf tournament of the year, placing ninth in the Lone Star Conference Women’s Championship. Rainey, a senior from Burneyville, put together rounds of 80 and 75 to finish to finish 11-over par on the WinStar Golf Course.

Rainey’s finish allowed the Bulldogs to climb one spot from last year’s previous finish and placing seventh as a team with a two-round score of 671.

Tarleton State, the nation’s second-ranked NCAA Division II team, won the tournament with a score of 602, 10 strokes ahead of Northeastern State’s 612.

NSU had the top two finishers in the field with Courtney Epps shooting an even par 144 and teammate Stephanie Bird placing second with a 146. Tarleton had four of its five players finish ninth or better.

Other SWOSU golfers and their finish are as follows: Tasha Marshall was 24th with a 23-over par score of 167, Whitney McCuistion was 28th at 27-over, 171, Kelly Lockhart was 33rd with a 34-over, 178 and Lauren Degan was 39th with a 47-over, 191.
