Men Finish Fifth at Fort Hays Rodeo

FORT HAYS, Kan – Southwestern Oklahoma State’s region leading men’s rodeo team put together another strong finish, placing fifth in the recently completed Fort Hays Rodeo. The SWOSU men collected 270 points and finished behind Southeastern Oklahoma State (525), Panhandle State (420), Northwestern Oklahoma (400) and Pratt Community College (275).

Bandy Murphy was again SWOSU’s top point producer as he won the bareback riding competition with a combined score of 149.0 on two rides. Murphy, a Punta Gorda, Fla. senior, ranks first in the Central Plains region in All-Around and bull riding, second in bareback riding and fourth in saddle bronc riding.

SWOSU also received points at Fort Hays from Paul Gavin who placed fifth in bull riding after a combined score of 145.0 on two rides. Teammate Aaron Allen finished seventh in steer wrestling with a combined time of 13.3 second on two attempts.

The Bulldogs also got points from a sixth-place finish by Tony Sauter and Bobby Martin in team roping. The pair had a combined time of 29.9 seconds on two attempts. Jesse Kulczycki teamed with NWOSU’s Keith Laurer to finish in fourth place with a time of 15.2 seconds.

SWOSU concludes the regular-season portion of its 2005-06 schedule with a three-day run at the Southeastern Oklahoma State University rodeo in Durant Thursday, April 27.
