Women Finish Second, Men Take Fifth at Pratt Rodeo

PRATT, KAN – Southwestern Oklahoma State University showed it’s still among the best rodeo teams in the region as the women finished second and the men placed fifth at the Pratt Community College Rodeo.

The SWOSU women, after not scoring a point in the season’s opener at Colby, bounced back with 290 points to finish second behind Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s 320 points.

The SWOSU men placed fifth with 270 points. Northwestern Oklahoma State won the men’s competition with 625 points.

SWOSU had two cowgirls advance in the breakaway roping competition as Jenna Lee Hays and Cashe Nesmith each made the short round. Hays finished third in the long round and split second and third in the short round to finish second in the average. Her best time in the event was 2.8 seconds. Nesmith did not have a time in the short round.

Michelle Peeples and Brittany Wiedel placed among the top competitors in the goat tying competition. Peoples split third in the long round and tied with three others for fourth place in the short round. Those two scores were enough to have Peoples place fourth in the average. Wiedel split fifth and sixth in the long round but did not score in the short round.

SWOSU had two barrel racers advance with Wiedel and Natalie Williams earning points for the team. Wiedel was fourth in the long round, fifth in the short round and placed fourth in the average. Williams finished sixth in the long round and ended up fifth in the average.

For the SWOSU men, bareback rider Dusty Gracia was the team’s best point producer once again. Gracia finished first in the long round, tied for the same spot in the short round and won the overall average. Gracia’s best ride was a score of 83 points.

SWOSU had two cowboys – Dustin England and Cody Kreizenbeck -- score points in the bull riding event. England had a 76-point ride in the short round that lifted him to second place in the average while Kreizenbeck had an 82-point ride in the long round that put him in fourth place in the average.

SWOSU’s next rodeo competition will begin Nov. 9 at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva.
