Goodwin Wins Bareback at K-State

MANHATTAN, Kansas -- Southwestern Oklahoma State University took a first-place effort by Monty Goodwin in bareback riding to help the team to a fifth-place finish at the Kansas State University Rodeo in Manhattan, Kan.
Goodwin finished first in both the long and short rounds of the event and was the easy winner in the average. He had scores of 81 and 77 on his final two rides.
Teammate Dusty Gracia finished fourth in the average in the same event after his fourth-place ride in the short round.
Northwestern Oklahoma State University won the team competition with a score of 590. The Rangers were followed by Panhandle State in second with 485 points and Fort Scott in third with 410 points. Southeastern Oklahoma State University was fourth with 350 points and SWOSU was fifth with 305.
SWOSU also got points from Tanner Houston in the calf roping event. Houston's third place finish in the short-round was good enough to secure fifth-place in the average. Teammate Matt Flemming did not score in the average but managed a sixth-place finish in the long round.
Bullrider Jesse Jackson finished in a two-way tie for third in the average in his event. He did not ride his bull in the short round but his score in the long round held up for him to place in the average.
Finally, in the team roping event Bobby Martin and his partner Luke Blanton of NWOSU finished third in the long round but did not score in the long round therefore missing out in the average.
SWOSU will next compete in the Garden City Community College Rodeo next week in Garden City, Kan.
