Jackson Wins Colby Bullriding

COLBY, Kan. –Jesse Jackson and Steven Bader’s one-two finish in bull riding lifted Southwestern Oklahoma State University to a fourth-place finish at the Colby Community College Rodeo.
Jackson was the only cowboy to ride a bull the full eight seconds in both the first and second round. He scored a 78 on his final ride after opening with a 73. Bader was initially in the lead with a 75 but was tossed in the short round.
Panhandle State won the overall team title with a score of 640 points. Conners State was second with 270 and Rogers State was third with 235. SWOSU’s 185-point total was good enough for fourth.
SWOSU’s Monty Goodwin won the bareback competition after following a 79-point, long-round ride with a 77-point effort in the short round.
SWOSU also had strong finishes by Austin Orgain in calf roping with a fourth-place finish in the long round. He did not score in the short round and missed on the average.
In steer wrestling, Luke Jeffries split fifth and sixth but did not get a time in the short round. Teammate Cody Johnson was among the top 10 finishers and invited back to participate in the short round.
SWOSU’s next rodeo competition will be Friday, Oct. 5 at Pratt Community College.
