Men Finish Sixth at Pratt

PRATT, Kans. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University used strong performances in both bareback and bull riding to finish in sixth place at the Pratt Community College Rodeo.

SWOSU ended the rodeo with 250 points and in sixth place. Oklahoma Panhandle State University was the runaway winner with 840 points. Garden City was second with 380 points and Fort Scott Community College was third with 330 points.

The sixth-place finish kept the Bulldogs in fourth place in the regional rankings.

SWOSU had four cowboys advance in the bareback competition led by Monty Goodwin who finished in a two-way tie for third in the average. Goodwin placed fifth in the short round and sixth overall to boost his average standing. Teammates Justin Wheatley and Cody Teel each shared fifth-place in the average thanks to finishing in a three-way tie for second in the short round.

The other SWOSU cowboy who advanced in the bareback was Cody Taylor who finished in a two-way tie for second in the long round. However, he did not score high enough in the second round and missed out on qualifying for the average.

Thomas Merritt had a strong showing in the first round of the calf roping event by finishing second. He did not score in the short round and missed scoring points in the average.

Daniel Gardner was SWOSU’s top bull rider in the event. He rode the full eight seconds on both his long and short round rides. He finished in two-way tie for second in the long round with a 74-point ride. He finished third in the short round with a 71-point effort and wound up second in the average.

Gardner’s teammate Keith Miller finished fourth in the short round with a score of 70 and finished in the same spot, fourth, in the average.

SWOSU will conclude its fall rodeo season when they travel to compete at the Northwestern Oklahoma State University rodeo in Alva.
