Men Place 4th at Fort Scott

March 10, 2008

FORT SCOTT, Kan. – The Southwestern Oklahoma State University men completed its third rodeo of the spring with a fourth-place finish at the Fort Scott Community College event.

The Bulldogs scored 290 points and finished behind first-place Oklahoma Panhandle State’s total of 750. Northwestern Oklahoma State University was second with 350 points and Garden City Community College was third with 295 points.

The SWOSU men, which are currently tied for fourth with Garden City Community College, will next compete April 3 at the Oklahoma Panhandle State Rodeo in Guymon. SWOSU’s own rodeo is set to begin Thursday, April 10, in Weatherford.

SWOSU got the bulk of their points thanks to the team-roping duo of Tanner Houston and Luke Jeffries. The two combined to place third in the average after finishing fourth in the long run and fifth in the short run. This was the second consecutive rodeo the two have finish among the average leaders.

Brad Abbe continued his hot streak in the bull riding event finishing fourth in the average after a 73-point ride in the long round. Abbe placed second last week at the Garden City rodeo.

SWOSU also got a strong effort from Cody Taylor who was among those cowboys who qualified for the short round in the bareback riding competition.
