April 6, 2008

GUYMON, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University tuned up for its own upcoming rodeo with a sixth-place finish at the recently completed Oklahoma Panhandle State Rodeo. The men finished with 220 points and placed behind eventual winner Panhandle State with 730 points, Southeastern Oklahoma with 660 points and Northwestern Oklahoma with 515 points.

SWOSU got the bulk of their points thanks to a strong showing in bull riding behind the rides of Daniel Gardner, Keith Miller and Brad Abbe. Gardner won second in the average with a long-run ride of 75, while Miller was third with a 74 and Abbe split fourth and fifth with a 70.

Luke Jeffries and Tanner Houston placed third in the long round of the team roping competition but did not score in the short round or the average.

SWOSU had one other cowboy, Cody Taylor, who performed well. Taylor finished among the top 10 in bareback riding but did not place in the short round or average.

The Bulldogs will next compete Thursday, April 10th at their own rodeo which begins its 36th annual run throughout the week.
