Women Place Third at Ft. Scott

Ft Scott, KS - Southwestern Oklahoma State multi-sport star Julie Dawson had her best rodeo of the season leading the Bulldogs to a third-place finish at the Ft. Scott Rodeo.
Southeastern Oklahoma State won the team competition with 335 points while Ft. Scott was second with 315 and SWOSU was third with 215.
SWOSU, which is ranked No. 8 nationally, had its lead in the Central Plains region standings trimmed by Southeastern after the Ft. Scott Rodeo. SWOSU remains in first with 1,760 points.
Dawson finished second in both the goat tying and breakaway roping events to earn her first All-Around Cowgirl award this year. Dawson’s scorching time of 2.60 seconds in the breakaway roping was the fastest at the event and allowed her to win the short round.
In the goat tying, Dawson finished in a sixth-place tie with teammate Martha Beagley in the long round. Dawson finished second in the short round and earned second in the average. Beagley finished in a third-place tie in the short round and was awarded fourth in the average.
Beagley also scored points in the breakaway roping with a fourth-place effort in the short round which earned her fourth in the average.
SWOSU also got points from Jenna Hays who finished in a sixth-place tie in the long round in breakaway roping.
SWOSU’s next rodeo begins Thursday, March 30 at Oklahoma Panhandle State.
