April 10, 2006

Weatherford, OK - Southwestern Oklahoma State used a first-place finish by Sarah Ellingson in the barrel racing competition to lift the SWOSU women to the team title at the 34th Annual SWOSU Rodeo. The rodeo completed its three-day run Saturday at Don Mitchell Arena in Weatherford.

Ellingson’s combined time of 33.11 on two runs gave the Bulldogs the bulk of their final 200 points. Northwestern Oklahoma State was a close second with 190 points while Pratt Community College was third with 170 points. The team title was the first time since 1993 that the SWOSU women had won their own rodeo.

SWOSU, winners of four rodeos this season, is enjoying a comfortable lead in the Central Plains Regional Standings with 2,310 points. Southeastern Oklahoma State is in second place with 1,785 points.

SWOSU got other top 10 finishes by Ashley Adams who finished in a two-way tie for sixth with a time of 17.3 on two breakaway roping attempts. Audra Hays also finished in sixth in goat tying with a combined time of 19.5 seconds on two attempts.

The 2006 spring rodeo season continues for the SWOSU women’s team as they will next compete April 21 at the Fort Hays State Rodeo.
