September 16, 2007

COLBY, Kan. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University women’s rodeo team showed again why they will be among the favorites to capture the Central Plains Regional Title this year with a second-place finish at the season’s opening rodeo at Colby Community College.

SWOSU finished with 216 points, trailing only Panhandle State’s winning mark of 255. Southeastern Oklahoma State University was third with 165 points.

The Bulldogs collected the bulk of their points thanks to three competitors qualifying in the top 10 of the breakaway roping event. Cally Cummings finished tied for first in the average after placing second in the long run and fourth in the short run. Jenna Lee Hays won the short run with a time of 2.6 seconds and with her sixth-place effort in the long-run, she finished third in the average. Kelsi Starks finished sixth in the long run but did not draw a time in the short run.

Michelle Peeples won the short run in goat tying with a time of 8.3 seconds and ended up second in the average.
