Women Take 4th at K-State

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University started the 2008 spring rodeo season with a fourth-place finish at the Kansas State Collegiate Rodeo. The Bulldogs collected 125 points thanks primarily to the performances of Riley Drury and Jenna Lee Hays.

Northwestern Oklahoma State won the women’s event with a score of 270 points, Ft. Scott was second with 185 points and Rogers State third with 145 points

Drury, a junior from Olustee, finished in a two-way tie in the average in breakaway roping. Drury split second, third and fourth place in the long round with a time of 2.8 seconds. She then followed that with a 3.2 in the short round which earned her second place.

Hays, a senior from Weatherford, placed second in the goat tying competition. She split fourth and fifth in the long round. She then turned in a 6.6 second effort in the short round which earned her second place in the round and in the average.

Sarah Sauter also was among those who also had a good rodeo at K-State. She finished third in the long round of the goat-tying competition and was among the top 10 barrel racers at the event.

SWOSU will next compete at the Garden City Community College rodeo which begins its three day run on Feb. 28.
