Women Finish Fifth at GCCC

GARDEN CITY, Kan. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University finished fifth in a tight race for the women’s team title at the Garden City Community College Rodeo. The Bulldogs collected 208 points and were just 62 points behind eventual winner Kansas State University and its total of 270.

Southeastern Oklahoma State placed third with 265 points, followed by Oklahoma Panhandle State in third with 255 points and Northwestern Oklahoma State in fourth with 215.

Sarah Sauter had an outstanding rodeo for SWOSU finishing among the leaders in all three events. She was among the top 10 in both the goat tying and break away roping events. She did best in her signature event, barrel racing, with a sixth-place finish in the average after a 13.02 time in the short round.

Two other SWOSU cowgirls finished among the leaders in breakaway. Jenna Lee Hays and Kelsi Starks each advanced to the short round after a strong showing in the long round. Hays split first and second in the short run with a time of 5.0 seconds. She placed in a two-way tie in the average after adding her sixth-place score in the long run.

Britney Edmondsun also scored points for SWOSU with a fifth-place finish in the goat-tying competition thanks in part to her fifth place finish in the short round.

SWOSU will next compete at the Fort Scott Community College Rodeo beginning Friday, March 7.
