FORT SCOTT, Kan. – The Southwestern Oklahoma State University women reached the halfway point of their spring rodeo season with a fifth-place finish at the Fort Scott Community College Rodeo.
SWOSU collected 93 points and ended behind first-place Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s 540 point total. Dodge City Community College was second with 265 points, Fort Scott was third with 255 points and Oklahoma Panhandle was fourth with 210 points.
SWOSU, which is currently ranked fifth in the Central Plains Region, will next compete April 3 at the Oklahoma Panhandle State Rodeo in Guymon. SWOSU’s own rodeo is set to begin Thursday, April 10, in Weatherford.
SWOSU’s 93 points came thanks to Jenna Lee Hays and Michelle Peeples strong showing in the goat tying competition. Hays finished fifth in the average after a second-place effort in the long run and a fifth-place finish in the short run. Peeples had a sixth-place run in the short round which helped her to sixth-place in the average.
Brittany Wiedel finished sixth in the long run with the goats but did not score in the short round and missed out on the average.
SWOSU had one other cowgirl who scored at the event with Regan Lawson splitting fifth and sixth place in the long run for breakaway roping.
