Women Win SWOSU Rodeo
April 13, 2008
WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University shifted its chase for a berth in the Women’s College National Finals Rodeo into high gear by capturing its first team title of the year at none other than its own rodeo.
SWOSU finished with 230 points and beat out Rogers State (180 points) and Panhandle State (170 points) for the top spot. The win moved SWOSU into fourth place in the Central Plains Regional Standings and within striking distance of second-place Oklahoma Panhandle State. The SWOSU women have two rodeos to make up 318 points, a tough task but certainly one that is attainable. The top two teams earn a berth in the CNFR later this year.
Maddie Craig won the breakaway roping competition with a combined time of 8.0 seconds on two rides. Her teammate Sarah Sauter finished second in the barrel racing competition with a score of 32.44 and Brittany Wiedel was third in the goat tying with a combined time of 18.3 seconds on two runs.
SWOSU will next compete at the Fort Hays State Rodeo in Hays, Kan., beginning on Friday, April 18.
