Women Win NWOSU Rodeo
November 7, 2009
ALVA, Okla. - Southwestern Oklahoma State University closed out its 2009 fall season by winning the Northwestern Oklahoma State University rodeo in convincing fashion. SWOSU ended with 345 points, outdistancing the host, NWOSU, by a wide margin. The Rangers finished second with 295 while Western Oklahoma State College was third with 195 points.
Weatherford sophomore Amy Outhier was back in her customary spot atop the goat-tying competition by winning first in the long run, short run and the average. Outhier's best time was a 6.3 in the long run. Outhier also was among the top 10 qualifiers in barrel racing but did have times low enough to finish among the top six in either round and did not place in the average.
Kelsi Chase also added considerable points to the Bulldog's team total in breakaway roping. Chase finished in a two-way tie for first after placing first in the short round with a time of 2.1. She did not finish among the top six in the short round.
Lorie Tierney also had a good rodeo placing fifth in the goat tying event thanks primarily to her fourth-place effort in the long run. She also was among the top 10 in breakaway roping but her times were not low enough to earn points in either round.
SWOSU will next enjoy a lengthy winter break before resuming action Feb. 19 at the Kansas State University rodeo.
