SWOSU Heats Up, Buries St. Gregory's 4-1 in Opener
August 25, 2005
Weatherford, OK - Southwestern Oklahoma State University showcased its new aggressive style of offensive and scorched visiting St. Gregory’s, 4-1, Thursday in women’s soccer action in Weatherford.
Sophomore midfielder Carrie Dumbauld scored twice and SWOSU peppered St. Gregory’s with 26 shots to win the season opener for both squads.
Head coach Joe Bradley, who had wanted to see a more assertive play in 2005, was pleased at how his team attacked the Lady Cav’s defense.
"I thought we created a lot more chances and opportunities to score,” Bradley said. “We did a good job of positioning and stayed on the offensive most of the game.”
Dumbauld was joined in the scoring column by teammates Chelsea Edwards and Krystal Wright. Edwards scored the first goal off a corner kick by Jamie Hilterbran just nine minutes into the game. Wright banged one home off her head after a well placed lob by defender Michelle Wilson at the 18:54 mark to give SWOSU a 2-0 lead.
Lindsey Crook held St. Gregory’s scoreless throughout the first half in goal coming away with one save. St. Gregory’s only score came late.
SWOSU next plays Sunday at the University of Pueblo-Colorado. The next home game is Thursday, Sept. 1 against Oklahoma Christian. Game time is 5 p.m.
