Soccer Team Preps for Two-Game Set

September 11, 2006

WEATHERFORD – Southwestern Oklahoma State heads into a critical point of its 2006 women’s soccer season as the Bulldogs prepare to host conference rival Northeastern State Friday and regional opponent Ouachita Baptist on Sunday.

SWOSU enters the weekend twinbill with a 3-2-1 record after playing a pair of matches at in Topeka, Kan. SWOSU battled Southwest Baptist to a 0-0, double-overtime draw on Friday and then lost to the host, Washburn, 4-1 on Saturday.

SWOSU coach Joe Bradley said although the lopsided loss against Washburn was disappointing there were still a few bright spots primarily with the play of newcomers Robin Reidle (Jr., Rose Hill, Kan.) and Meghan Vance (Fr., Mustang).

“Robin and Meghan had some really good moments for us this weekend,” Bradley said. “They stepped up their level of play which allowed us to do some different things that will eventually make us batter.”

While Reidle and Vance were noted for their improved play, Bradley said he would most like to see improvement in the team’s attacking game.

“We need to get better at moving the ball up front and putting more pressure on our opponents when we have scoring opportunities,” Bradley said. “Goals just don’t happen by accident.”

Carrie Dumbauld (Jr., Fort Worth, Texas) and Cherilyn Pritchett (Sr., Del City) have been the team’s top goal scorers through the first six games. Dumbauld scored three goals in the opening win against St. Gregory’s while Pritchett scored goals in each of the last two wins against Northwestern Oklahoma and East Central.

NSU is 2-3-2 on the year and feature one of the Lone Star Conference’s top goal scorers in Charlotte Dinsdall. The 6-1 senior from England has scored five goals in seven games. NSU and SWOSU have split the last two encounters with each winning on their home field.
