RICHARDSON, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University continues to collect accolades for its rapidly improving women’s soccer team as forward Jamie Hilterbran earned the Lone Star Conference offensive-player-of-the-week.
Hilterbran, a junior from Mustang, scored the winning goal in SWOSU’s 2-1 upset victory over Texas A&M-Commerce Sunday on the road. Hilterbran’s penalty kick came in the game’s 86th minute after she was tackled inside the box by A&M-C’s goalkeeper. The goal was Hilterbran’s fourth of the year which places her second on the team.
The win completed a weekend sweep by the Bulldogs as they beat Texas Woman’s University Friday in Denton by the same 2-1 score. The two victories improved SWOSU to 6-6-1 overall and 3-2 in the LSC and put them in good position for their first-ever, post-season tournament berth. SWOSU is currently tied in fourth place with Eastern New Mexico in the LSC standings with four games to play. The top six teams qualify for the LSC Tournament set for later this month in Edmond.
Hilterbran is the first SWOSU soccer play to win the weekly honor since goalkeeper Elizabeth Horton was recognized by the league office in September of 2001 for the same award.
SWOSU’s next home game is Friday against Eastern New Mexico University. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
