WEATHERFORD – Southwestern Oklahoma State University battled Eastern New Mexico for 110 minutes Friday afternoon and settled nothing, again. The Bulldogs and the Lady Zias fought to a 1-1 draw and for the third consecutive year a winner did not emerge. The two teams played a scoreless double-overtime draw in 2004 and 2005.

The tie left both teams in the same spot in the Lone Star Conference standings. SWOSU and ENMU both shared fourth place and are likely to remain at that position for at least another day. SWOSU is not 6-6-2 overall and 3-2-1 in league play. ENMU is 8-6-1 and also 3-2-1.

Jamie Hilterbran, SWOSU’s hero last week, was the first person to produce a score in the game. Hilterbran took a ball that had been placed into the box on a perfectly lofted free kick by Rachel Slack after it was directed by Carrie Dumbauld. Hilterbran pushed the shot past diving ENMU goalkeeper Stephanie Sanchez for a goal in the game’s 22nd minute. The goal was Hilterbran’s fifth of the year.

ENMU tied the game later when Megan Dozier scored also off a free kick that was sent into play by Katharine Coulombe in the game’s 60th minute.

SWOSU had several chances to win it late in the game the best opportunities came when Hilterbran hit the outside post off a corner kick and Krystal Wright nailed the crossbar from the top of the box in the final minutes.

SWOSU’s next game will be at home Sunday at 2 p.m. against conference power West Texas A&M.
