WEATHERFORD – Southwestern Oklahoma State University kept pace early but wilted late as the Bulldogs fell 7-0 to visiting West Texas A&M University in a women’s soccer match Sunday in Weatherford.

SWOSU fought the Buffs even for much of the first half and trailed by only one goal, 1-0, at the break. WTAMU then shifted into another gear and blistering the Bulldog defense with attack after attack. The Buffs scored three goals in a span of 11 minutes and were up 4-0 when Samantha Calcote scored her third goal in the 61st minute.

WTAMU added three more before the final whistle, the last of which came in the 84th minute by Elizabeth Markussen.

The loss dropped SWOSU to 6-7-2 and 2-4-2 in the Lone Star Conference play. WTAMU improved to 12-2-1 and 4-2-1 in league play.

The loss put a sour note on what had been “Senior Day” for four Bulldog player playing their final home game. Forwards Cherilyn Pritchett and Cheslea Edwards along with midfielder Robin Kluck and defender Christine Le were honored in a brief ceremony before the game.

SWOSU now faces must win situations on the road against Midwestern State on Friday and Angelo State on Sunday if it is to qualify for the LSC Postseason Tournament.
