WEATHERFORD, Okla.– Southwestern Oklahoma State University battled visting Texas Women’s University toe-to-toe for the major portion of Sunday’s soccer game but could not come away with what is becoming more and more of an elusive victory losing 2-1.

TWU came up with the game winner when Raven Morales took a well-placed cross from teammate Chastity Hayter and delivered into the back of the Bulldogs’ net with just 1:19 seconds to play in regulation.

The heartbreaking loss was SWOSU’s 13th in as many games and lowered the Bulldogs’ Lone Star Conference record to 0-4. TWU improved to 4-8-1 and 1-3 in league play. The loss snapped what had been a three-gamme win streak by the Bulldogs over the Pioneers.

SWOSU appeared to have forced the game into overtime by rallying with some spirited play late in the game. Senior Carrie Dumbauld got free in front of TWU’s net while taking a pass from teammate Christina Kneedler. Dumbauld had time to set and deliver a shot into the goal that tied the game at 1-1 in the 83rd minute. The goal for Dumbauld, SWOSU’s leading goal scorer for the last three seasons, was her first of the year.

TWU scored the game’s initial goal when Hayter took a hard drive down the center of the SWOSU defense after taking a pass from Romy Luna. Hayter then beat the SWOSU keeper and TWU was ahead 1-0 four minutes before half.

The Pioneers outshot SWOSU 18-11, but the Bulldogs bettered them in the second half taking eight shots to TWU’s six.

SWOSU will next play back-to-back road games against LSC foes West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico before returning home on Friday, Oct. 19 to face Angelo State at 4 p.m.
