Soccer To Close Home Season

October 15, 2007

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University will put play its final two home soccer games of the 2007 season when the Bulldogs host Angelo State and Abilene Christian in a pair of Lone Star Conference matches set for this weekend in Weatherford. SWOSU will face Angelo State Friday, Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. and conclude the week with a game against Abilene Christian on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m.

The two matches will mark the final home games for five SWOSU seniors, including the school’s all-time leading scorer and another who scored perhaps the program’s most famous goal. Record holder Carrie Dumbauld and goal-scoring hero Jamie Hilterbran along with starters Kristin Kirtland, Robin Reidle and team newcomer Calry McKinnon will be honored in pre-game ceremonies before the ACU game on Sunday.

Dumbauld, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, has led SWOSU in scoring as a freshman, sophomore and a junior. She owns the school records for most goals in a career (17), season (7) and game (3, done twice). She has played in 14 games this season and leads the team in shots attempted with 25 while scoring one goal and adding one assist.

Hilterbran, a graduate of Yukon High School, is second on the team in points with five. She has two goals and has boosted her career assist total to 10 with one this season. Her most famous play was not an assist, but a goal, in which she scored on a penalty kick in the 86th minute to beat LSC power Texas A&M-Commerce in 2006. It was the first time in 10 previous meetings that SWOSU had beaten the Lions.

Kirtland has been a mainstay with the SWOSU program since graduating from Altus High School. She has been one of the team’s primary defenders each of the last three years and has always been counted on to provide relentless hustle and determination.

Reidle joined the squad last season after starring at Barton County Junior College. The native of Rose Hill, Kan. is the team’s leading scorer with three goals. She has found net against Northwestern Oklahoma, Midwestern State and Ouachita Baptist this year.

McKinnon, a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, is playing her final year of athletic eligibility with the soccer team. She has been a solid midfielder and has helped the Bulldogs with some spirited play this season. She began her college career at Galveston College and North Idaho Junior College as a softball player.
