WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University played its best soccer game of the season digging out of a deep hole only to lose in heartbreaking fashion against Abilene Christian University.

ACU’s Jordan Reese scored in the opening minutes of overtime when she took a pass from teammate Lyndsey Womack as the Wildcats escaped with a 4-3 win. The loss kept the Bulldogs winless in 17 games this season. ACU improved to 8-10 and 3-5 in league play.

ACU’s overtime goal came after a spirited SWOSU rally in which the Bulldogs overcame a 3-0 deficit to force the extra session.

SWOSU gave up back-to-back goals within 45 seconds of each other and found themselves down 2-0 after only six minutes of play. ACU’s lead came 3-0 when Reese scored her first goal of the game at the 17 minute mark. From that point it was all SWOSU.

Krystal Wright scored in the 24th minute to close ACU’s lead to 3-1. Wright found a free ball after a scramble in the box and punched in her first score of the year.

Jessica Story then dribbled past several defenders and scored following a long drive down the center of the field. Story’s goal, her first of the year, brought SWOSU to within one at 3-2 with 40 minutes played.

The game stayed that way until late when SWOSU’s Elyse Berta took a forward pass from Jamie Hilterbran and beat ACU’s keeper to tie the game at 3-3 in the 76th minute.

The three goal scored was SWOSU’s best of the year and its most in 25 games dating back to a 6-0 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo in 2006.

The Bulldogs close their 2007 season on the road with games at East Central and Northeastern State University later this week.
