October 5, 2008
DENTON, Texas -- Southwestern Oklahoma State University's start to the 2008 women's Lone Star Conference soccer season did not go as planned as the Bulldogs were beaten by Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's during the weekend.SWOSU was shutout in both games losing to A&M-Commerce on Friday by an 8-0 score and then were blanked by TWU by a 4-0 margin on Sunday.
The losses dropped SWOSU to 2-9 overall and 0-2 in conference play. SWOSU will next play at home Friday against West Texas A&M University beginning at 4 p.m.
TWU's Chastity Hayter scored three of the Pioneers four goals, including one that bounced crazily into the Bulldogs goal in the 18th minute. Izzy Babb started the play for TWU with a corner kick from the right side. The Pioneers’ Kyli Morgan headed the ball down and it caromed off Hayter's hip and into the Bulldogs’ goal. Hayter second goal came in the 34th minute when she volleyed in a right-side corner kick from sophomore midfielder Rebekah Ledet.
Ledet created Hayter’s third goal in the 60th minute when she blasted a shot from 20 yards out that deflected off of the hands of SWOSU goalie Becky Hilterbran. Hayter pounced on the rebound and punched the ball into the Bulldogs’ net to complete the hat trick and tally her fifth goal of the season.
Jacqueline Horner netted the fourth and final TWU goal of the contest in the 66th minute when she converted a Kim Richey crossing pass from 25 yards out.
The Pioneers controlled play throughout and established a new single-game school record with 56 shots. SWOSU, conversely, attempted just five shots, all of them in the second half and by five different players.
In the earlier game against Commerce, not much went right for the Bulldogs in the 8-0 loss. SWOSU attempted only one shot against a fierce Lion defense while allowing 40 shots, 20 of which were on goal.
