Softball Drops Pair at WT Tourney
February 25, 2007
CANYON, Texas – Southwestern Oklahoma State University suffered a pair of setbacks in its only day of play Friday at the rain-shortened West Texas A&M University Softball Tournament.
The Bulldogs, now 3-5 on the year, lost 7-1 to Missouri Southern State University in the first game and were beaten 5-3 by Eastern New Mexico in the second. All games scheduled for Saturday were cancelled because of wet grounds.
Lacie Keplinger and Jennifer Buccola were the only two Bulldogs batters to get hits against MSSU pitching.
Kaci Carpenter (1-1) was credited with the loss. She allowed seven runs, five of which were unearned thanks primarily to four fielding miscues in the first two innings. Alex Zukerman pitched five innings of scoreless relief and struckout five batters while allowing three hits.
In game two, SWOSU did much better at the plate peppering Eastern New Mexico with eight hits. Unfortunately, few came in succession and the Bulldogs ended the game leaving five runners on base. April Nash was the only SWOSU player to collect more than one hit. She was two-for-three while six others had one hit.
Alli Flaman took the loss as she allowed five runs, three of which were earned, in four and two-thirds innings.
SWOSU will next play at home Tuesday against Oklahoma Christian in a doubleheader set to begin at 2 p.m.
