March 2, 2007
WEATHERFORD – Southwestern Oklahoma State University squared its overall softball record at six wins and six losses after a resounding doubleheader sweep Thursday of visiting Southern Nazarene University. The Bulldogs won the opener 3-1 and then later run-ruled SNU 10-1 in the second game.
SWOSU will continue play Friday and Saturday with four games at the University of Central Oklahoma Tournament. SWOSU will play Oklahoma Baptist, Emporia State and Washburn.
In game one against SNU, SWOSU was in good shape throughout thanks to the solid pitching efforts by starter Alex Zukerman and reliever Alli Flaman. The pair limited SNU to just four hits and struck out six batters. Zukerman picked up the win, her third in five decisions. Flaman was credited with her second save
SWOSU scored all the runs it needed in the first when Flaman and Laci Keplinger each had RBI singles to put the Bulldogs ahead early at 2-1.
In the second game, SWOSU was in control quickly and extended its dominance later. Stacey Creger had a two-RBI triple to highlight a five-run third inning putting the Bulldogs ahead 5-1. Flaman then again came up with another big hit, this time a three-run home run in the fifth that built the margin to 10-1. Flaman has now hit four home runs and leads the team in RBI’s with 15 in 12 games.
Kaci Carpenter (2-1) picked up the win on the mound. She allowed just one run through four innings while scattering three hits. Flaman pitched a scoreless fifth to force the game to end early because of the run rule.
