WEATHERFORD, Okla.– Southwestern Oklahoma State University pushed aside a pair of challenges by East Central University, beating the Tigers in both games of a softball doubleheader Friday in Weatherford. The Bulldogs won the opener 5-0 and completed the sweep with a 4-1 victory in the second game. The wins improved SWOSU to 11-13 overall and 3-5 in the Lone Star Conference North Division. ECU dipped to 7-15 and 1-11 in division play.
SWOSU pitcher Alex Zukerman continued her mastery over the Tigers, tossing her second shutout in two days. Zukerman, who improved to 6-3 on the year allowed seven hits, struck out three and walked two batters. The Lawton sophomore has not allowed a run in 14 consecutive innings.
SWOSU’s offensive hero in the first game was freshman Stacey Creger who belted her fourth home run of the season. Creger’s shot, a three-run homer in the fourth, put the Bulldogs comfortably ahead at 4-0.
The Bulldogs added another run in the fifth when Keri Glidewell led off with a single then stole second. She scored on a single by April Nash giving SWOSU it’s final lead at 5-0.
In the second game, SWOSU again took control early coming up with three runs in its first at bat. Nash and Lacie Keplinger each had RBI singles while Creger drove in a run with a well-placed infield hit.
The 3-0 lead was more than enough for pitcher Alli Flaman who picked up her third win of the year. Flaman gave up just four hits while striking out batters and walking three. She allowed 10 base runners but each time found ways of getting out of tight spots.
The Bulldogs will next play at home Thursday against Ouachita Baptist. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m.
