WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s chase for a top four spot in the Lone Star Conference North Division hit a considerable snag Saturday as the Bulldogs lost both ends of a softball doubleheader to Cameron University by scores of 12-5 and 7-5.

The sweep left the Bulldogs at 13-15 overall and 3-7 in the LSC North. SWOSU is in fifth place, three full games behind fourth-place Midwestern State. The Bulldogs are hoping to make their third trip to the LSC Postseason Tournament and the first since 2002. Cameron helped solidify its position in the LSC North moving into third with a 16-18 overall mark and 9-5 in the division.

SWOSU had things all squared with Cameron in the first game at 1-1 through four innings of play before an unlucky event broke the game open. SWOSU pitcher Alex Zukerman in an attempt to pick off a runner at second threw wildly and the ball ended up rolling to the outfield fence. The bases were loaded at the time all three Aggies ended up scoring on the errant throw.

The Aggies added four more runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to take a 12-1 lead.

SWOSU’s offensive star of the first game was Alli Flaman who had two hits and three RBI’s, including her record-tying seventh home run of the season.

The Bulldogs showed their competitive spirit in the second game fighting back from a 5-0 hole to tie the game in the fourth inning. Back-to-back doubles by Lacie Keplinger and Teryn Mazurkewich were the highlight of a four-run fourth that tied the game at 5-5.

Cameron came up with the game winner in the seventh when Megan Young singled to score a pair of base runners putting Aggies ahead 7-5. The Bulldogs went quietly in their last at bat with no batters reaching base.

SWOSU will conclude the four-game series with Cameron Tuesday in Lawton. The next home game will be April 5 against St. Gregory’s.
