Softball Bottled by NSU
April 18, 2007
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University had its bats go quiet against Northeastern State University as the Bulldogs generated only one total run and lost both ends of softball doubleheader Wednesday in Tahlequah. NSU won by scores of 8-1 and 1-0.
The losses dropped SWOSU to 15-22 and 5-13 in the LSC North. SWOSU is in sixth place in the division and are six games back of fourth-place Cameron for the final qualifying spot in the LSC Tournament. The Bulldogs have just six game remaining, two at home Saturday against Northeastern and a four-game set next week against Midwestern State.
SWOSU started game one in the lead when Keri Glidewell reached base on a hit then later scored on a fielder’s choice bunt by Stacey Creger.
The Lady Reds then broke the game open in the third inning with seven runs, thanks in part to four errors committed by the Bulldogs.
SWOSU managed four total hits against the NSU starting pitcher and reached second base only three times after the first inning.
In the second game, SWOSU’s Alex Zukerman and NSU star Inola Williamson put together quite a pitching performance as each dominated their opponent. NSU scored the game’s only run in the third inning when a one-out double by Kimberlin that scored Kim Totten.
Zukerman pitched outstanding allowing just three hits through six innings of work. Her record fell to 6-7 on the year. She retired the last 12 batters she faced.
Williamson (10-4) was a bit better giving up just one hit, a fifth-inning single by Creger, that spoiled what would have been her second career no-hitter against SWOSU.
