WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University awakened its slumbering bats in a big way and put a 10-4 beating on visiting Northeastern State University in the second game of a softball doubleheader Saturday in Weatherford. NSU won the first game 4-1.

The split left the Bulldogs overall record at 16-23 and kept them locked in fifth-place tie at 6-14 in the Lone Star Conference North. NSU’s record moved to 27-10 and 13-7 in the division.

SWOSU, which had scored only two runs in three previous games against the Lady Reds, recaptured some of its early-season firepower thanks in part to its biggest hitters of the season – Alli Flaman and Stacey Creger. The one-two punch each went deep in the second game as the Bulldogs dusted off the missing long ball and brought it back to their attack.

Flaman, whose homer was the only SWOSU run in the first game, smashed another in the second. It added to her SWOSU record of nine home runs in a single season. The home runs had broken a spell of 11 consecutive games that the slugger had not knocked one over the fence.

Creger, who has given Flaman chase all season in the home run category, blasted her sixth of the year in game two. Creger’s shot was a critical one in the outcome of as NSU had just finished fighting back to tie the game at 4-4. Creger’s home run was part of a six-run, sixth inning that put the Bulldogs back in a comfortable position.

Pitcher Alex Zukerman went the distance on the mound evening her overall record at 7-7. She gave up five hits and all four of NSU’s runs that were scored were unearned.

SWOSU will wrap up its home season Tuesday against Midwestern State University before traveling to Wichita Falls, Texas to face the Mustangs in the season finale Saturday.
