Softball Helps Blood Drive

November 15, 2007

Members of the Southwestern Oklahoma State University softball team and its coaching staff are partnering with the Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) to assist in the collection of the organization’s “Holiday Hero” drive set for Nov. 27-28 on campus.

The softball team, under the direction of coach Tami Loy, has been a longtime supporter of the project and assisted in last year’s event that drew 196 donors, up 51 from the previous year.

“This is something that we are very supportive of and eager to assist in whatever capacity is needed,” Loy said. “We understand the importance of keeping an ample supply of blood with the Institute especially around the holiday season.”

The OBI  is the eighth largest regional not-for-profit blood center in the United States. It provides blood to patients in 114 hospitals in 61 Oklahoma counties and five North Texas counties. OBI's mission is "to provide the safest and highest quality blood, services and health programs to the patients and communities we serve." Working closely with blood donors and other volunteers, OBI stays prepared to meet the needs of every patient in the communities it serves.
