Softball Splits Doubleheader
February 19, 2008
SHAWNEE, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University came away with a 4-3 victory in the second game of a softball doubleheader to assure a split with St. Gregory’s Tuesday in Shawnee. The Bulldogs lost the first game 3-1 and are now 2-2 on the young season.
SWOSU will next play at West Texas A&M in a weekend tournament before returning home Monday, Feb. 26 to host New Mexico Highlands.
Freshman Fallon Bradshaw was the hero for SWOSU in the second game driving in three runs including a bases loaded triple in the third. Bradshaw scored SWOSU’s fourth run of the game in the fifth when she reached on a single, stole second and eventually scored on an RBI by Keri Glidewell.
The four runs were enough for starter Alex Zukerman (1-1) who picked up her first win this year. The Lawton junior allowed just five hits and protected a one-run lead over the last two innings.
In the opener, SWOSU managed just two hits off St. Gregory’s starter Sharon Bell.
Bradshaw’s double in the third scored Ashley Duran for the Bulldogs only run.
Brittany Strickland (1-1) took the loss on the mound despite allowing just three hits in six innings of work. She struck out two and walked one but yielded a run in the second and two in the fourth which spoiled an otherwise solid effort.
