Softball Wins Two at Ft. Lewis

DURANGO, Colo. -- Southwestern Oklahoma State University came up with two hard-fought victories Saturday against Ft. Lewis College to salvage a 2-2 split for its four-game Colorado road trip.
The Bulldogs beat Ft. Lewis 8-6 and 8-7 to improve their overall record to 8-10 on the year. The wins followed 9-8 and 10-0 losses on Friday at Adams State.
SWOSU will next play Thursday at home against Adams State in a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. before resuming Lone Star Conference play Saturday at Central Oklahoma.
In the 8-7 win against Fort Lewis, Keri Glidewell’s two-out single scored Ashley Duran with the game’s winning run. Duran had reached on a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball before Glidwell’s hit.
SWOSU had a number of offensive stars in the game as Meghan Browning, Stacy Creger and Lacie Keplinger each smashed home runs as the Bulldogs built a 7-4 lead going into the seventh inning.
Browning swung the hottest bat on the trip, collecting nine hits in 13 at bats for a .692 average. She had two home runs, five RBI’s and raised her team-leading batting average to .444 on the year.
In the first game against Fort Lewis, SWOSU took advantage of three fielding miscues by the SkyHawks in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead. The Bulldogs would add two more runs in the seventh on a two-run homer by Browning and held off Fort Lewis in the seventh for the win.
Alex Zukerman got her fifth win of the season even though she allowed 15 hits. She struck out seven and walked four as Fort Lewis stranded 13 base runners over seven innings.
