March 13, 2008

Carpenter, a junior from Murray, Ky., was near flawless in a run-ruled shortened game that was stopped after five with SWOSU ahead 8-0. ASC had only two batters reach base, once on a dropped fly ball by centerfielder Ashley Duran in the second and a fifth inning walk. Carpenter improved her record to 2-0 with the win.
She became the first SWOSU pitcher to no-hit an opponent since Kaleena Michelli did the same against East Central in 2005. The other SWOSU no hitters were both pitched against Hillsdale Bible; once by Shandi McDounogh in 2004 and another by Courtney Hale in 2002.
SWOSU won the first game 4-1 and improved to 10-10 on the year. The Bulldogs will next play Saturday at rival Central Oklahoma before returning home to meet the same Bronchos on Tuesday, March 18 in an important Lone Star Conference series.
In the first game, SWOSU took control early taking a 3-1 after one inning. Lacie Keplinger and Meghan Browning each had RBI singles in the inning. The Bulldogs added one more run in the third when Krissy Steele doubled in Keplinger with the fourth and final run.
Alex Zukerman scattered seven hits and allowed one run to improve to 6-3 on the mound. She held ASC scoreless through the final six innings of play.
SWOSU peppered ASC’s first-time pitcher Denee Johnson in the second game with eight hits and eight runs. Johnson uncorked six wild pitches that allowed the Bulldogs advance around the bases with great frequency.
Megan McGill had a two RBI single in the second to put SWOSU ahead 3-0. SWOSU added more in the fourth with the big hit coming on a two-RBI double by Keri Glidewell.
