WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University had its share of chances but could generate the necessary runs to stay with visiting Cameron University, losing both ends of a softball doubleheader by scores of 8-1 and 5-2.

The losses dropped SWOSU to 13-24 overall and kept them in seventh place in the Lone Star Conference North Division with a 2-12 mark. Cameron improved 29-23 overall and 7-7 in the division. The two teams will resume their series Saturday with a doubleheader in Lawton.

In the first game, SWOSU tied it at 1-1 in the first on a sacrifice fly by Stacey Creger. Cameron moved to the front taking a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth before the Bulldogs closed the gap.

Teryn Mazurkewich led off with a triple and then scored on a ground out to make it 4-2. The Bulldogs would get no closer as Cameron’s Megan Young belted her second homer of the game and her 14th of the season as part of a four-run sixth inning that put the game away.

SWOSU came up with four hits against Cameron’s ace Ashton McBride with Mazurkewich collecting two of them. McBride got the win and improved to 19-14 on the year.

In game two, SWOSU jumped ahead 1-0 in its first at bat. Keri Glidwell led off with a single then advanced on a sacrifice before scoring when Lacie Keplinger smashed a single to the outfield.

Cameron drew even in the third, took the lead in the fifth and had a 5-1 lead before the Bulldogs scored again. In the seventh, Glidwell reached on a double, advanced to third on an error and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Brittany Strickland.

SWOSU did manage to put the tying run at the plate only to see Aggie pitcher Giselle Guzman get Alex Zukerman to end the game with a pop up to second base.
