Softball Loses Cameron Twinbill
April 12, 2008
LAWTON, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University watched its bats go quiet in a softball doubleheader loss to Cameron University Saturday in Durant. The Bulldogs generated just five hits in both games and were beaten by scores of 6-1 and 3-1 by the Aggies.
The losses left the Bulldogs at 13-24 overall and kept them in seventh place in the Lone Star Conference North Division standings with a 2-12 mark. Cameron, which won all four games against SWOSU, improved to 31-23 overall and 9-7 in division play. SWOSU will next play Tuesday at Southeastern Oklahoma State University before returning home Saturday, April 19 to host the same SOSU team.
Cameron’s Ashton McBride was again dominant on the mound upping her record to 20-14 on the year. She allowed just five hits, one run, struckout four batters and walked none in a 6-1 win.
The Bulldogs rattled McBride only once in the fifth when Megan McGill doubled then advanced to third on a single by Keri Glidewell. McGill then scored on a groundout for SWOSU’s only run when Brittany Strickland hit a roller to second base.
Cameron led 1-0 after one and had its margin built to 5-0 before McGill broke up the shutout in the fifth with her run.
In the second game, SWOSU took an early 1-0 lead when Glidwell led off with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a pass ball. Strickland singled and collected her second RBI on the day when Glidwell raced home.
Cameron tied it at 1-1 in their half of the first and took the lead in the second against SWOSU pitcher Alex Zukerman. The Aggies moved head 3-1 in the fourth with another run.
Zukerman pitched well in her hometown but got little offensive support. She allowed just eight hits, three runs, two of which were unearned while going the distance. She struck out five and walked just one batter.
