Upset Bid Falls Short

April 15, 2008

DURANT, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University hopes for an upset of nationally-ranked Southeastern Oklahoma State University never materialized as the Bulldogs lost a pair of softball games by scores of 9-1 and 8-4 Wednesday in Durant.

The two teams resume their series Saturday in Weatherford with another doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. SWOSU’s record is now 13-28 overall and 2-16 in the Lone Star Conference’s North Division. SOSU, ranked No. 8 nationally, improves to 43-7 and 16-2 in the division.

SWOSU did little in the opener against SOSU’s All-American candidate Majorie Johnson generating just one hit and striking out 12 times. SWOSU’s lone run came in the first when Keri Glidewell led off with a hit then advanced around the basepaths on a pair of wild pitches and a passed ball.

The Bulldogs did considerably better in game two, out hitting the Savage Storm by a 12-9 margin. However, the Bulldogs could not push runners across the plate with any regularity and ended up stranding 12 on the base paths.

SWOSU scored three of its four runs in its last at bat. Megan McGill reached on an error then scored on a double by Lacie Keplinger. Stacey Creger then followed with a double to score Keplinger. Creger then scored on a groundout before Johnson was brought in closed the door with a strikeout.
