The losses put SWOSU’s overall record at 13-30 on the year and dropped their Lone Star Conference North Division mark to 2-18. SOSU, the nation’s eighth-ranked team, improved to 45-7 and 18-2 in division play. SWOSU will close its 2008 season with a four-game series against Northeastern State University. The two teams play a doubleheader Tuesday in Weatherford before concluding with a doubleheader Saturday, April 26 in Tahlequah.
In the second game, Southeastern’s Jaclyn Mullaney’s home run in the seventh inning completed a late-inning rally that wiped away what had been a 7-4 Southwestern lead.
The Bulldogs went up 5-2 in their half of the second as they chased Southeastern starter Jami McAdoo from the game. Alex Zukerman, Fallon Bradshaw and Keri Glidewell each had RBI singles as the Bulldogs pushed across five runs in the inning with partial thanks to a fielding miscue by the Savage Storm.
Ashley Duran, who was one of two SWOSU players to collect two hits in the game, drove in a run in the fourth to make it 6-3. The Bulldogs added their last run in the fifth when Lacie Keplinger smashed one off the heel of Southeastern pitcher Marjorie Johnson with the bases loaded to score a run.
Southeastern tied it in the sixth at 7-7 with three runs off Zukerman. Two runs were the result of a misplayed grounder by Bradshaw in left.
Brittany Strickland came in and retired the final two batters in the sixth but was greeted rudely in the seventh when Mullaney hit the game winner just inside the left field foul pole.
In the first game, Johnson was overpowering on the mound striking out 10 batters and allowing four hits to pick up the win for Southeastern. She raised her overall record on the season to 25-3 and has struckout 320 batters in 177 innings this year.
