Softball Takes Down Northeastern
April 22, 2008
WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University delivered a welcomed going away present to its graduating seniors as the Bulldogs took both ends of a softball doubleheader against visiting Northeastern State Tuesday in Weatherford. SWOSU won the first game 4-2 and completed the twinbill sweep with a 2-1 victory in game two.
The sweep was the first by SWOSU this year against a Lone Star Conference foe and improved the Bulldogs’ record to 15-30 overall and 4-18 in the North Division. NSU fell to 22-23 overall and 7-15 in league play. SWOSU will end its season Saturday with a doubleheader against the same Northeastern team in Tahlequah.
Stacey Creger’s bases-loaded double in the fourth scored three runners and rallied the Bulldogs in the first game. Creger’s hit scored Lacie Keplinger, Brittany Strickland and Ashley Duran and put SWOSU ahead 4-2.
Strickland settled down on the mound after a shaky fourth inning in which she allowed two runs on three hits. She retired the final nine batters in order to pick up the win and improve to 5-14 on the year.
In game two, Alex Zukerman was in control on the mound, allowing only one unearned run while scattering seven hits through seven innings. She collected the win and improved to 8-13 on the year.
SWOSU’s winning run came in the fourth when Keplinger scored from first after a dropped fly ball by the NSU left fielder.
In between games SWOSU seniors Megan McGill, Keri Glidwell, Hali Lewis, Erin Hutton, Teryn Mazurkewich and Keplinger were recognized for their contributions to the Bulldog softball program in a brief ceremony.
