Softball Signs Seven Players

WEATHERFORD, Okla.  – Southwestern Oklahoma State University softball coach Tami Loy has announced that seven high school players and have signed national letters of intent and will begin playing for the Bulldogs next season.

Loy said she believes the newest group of players will improve the Bulldogs in a number of areas and most importantly will bring in added speed and athleticism.
 
“We have a number of very important positions to fill with the graduation of six seniors,” Loy said. “All of these young ladies will be given a chance to show what they can do and make a contribution right away.”

The signees include Cassie Chambless and Sarah Harwell from Tuttle, Deven Brandt from Chickasha, Laiken Lester from Perkins, Katie Raines from El Reno, Kristyn Shawver from Midwest City and Raven Staats from Deer Creek-Edmond.

Chambless and Harwell combined to lead Tuttle High School to the Class 4A state title. Chambless was a hard-throwing right-handed pitcher while Harwell was an all-state catcher for Tigers.

Brandt and Shawver were both all-state outfielders who will be vying a right field position that became vacated with graduation. Lester and Staats are both infielders who can play a number of positions while Raines is a left-handed pitcher who also can bat with power.

In addition to the seven high schoolers, Loy announced that two other players will be joining the squad after transferring from Southern Nazarene University. They are infielder Amy Barrios of Moore and outfielder Kelly Moore of Owasso. Both will be juniors next season.
